Maracuja, also known as passion fruit, is a round purple or yellow fruit with a distinct tart and sweet flavor. It is grown in tropical regions, including South Florida, and is used as a source of juice. The leaves and roots of the passion flower are used in traditional medicine for its calming effect to treat anxiety disorders and insomnia.

Maracuja oil comes from either the flower or the seeds of its fruit. It is a very light oil that absorbs well into the skin and has a naturally sweet, fruity scent. This non-greasy oil is anti-inflammatory and antioxidant rich, full of carotenoids and phenols that help repair sun damaged skin and prevent signs of aging. It can stimulate collagen production and makes a great daily oil for all skin types.

Maracuja oil is also high in linoleic acid, which is helpful for those with acne prone skin. People with acne prone skin have been shown to have lower levels of linoleic acid, causing the skin to produce thick sebum which clogs the pores and causes acne. Applying oils higher in linoleic acid balances the skin’s oil production and leads to fewer breakouts.

Our daily antioxidant serum, Gotas de Belleza, includes this powerhouse oil, along with several other oils and active botanicals. This light and tropical serum delivers antioxidants and nutrients to fight free radicals, smooth, tone, and feed skin the nutrients it needs to look fresh, radiant, and plump.
